The $40.6-million Student Recreation Center opened in March, with a grand opening event held April 9. Funded through student fees, the new center offers two stories and 95,000 square feet of basketball, volleyball or badminton courts, weight machines, stationary cycles, martial arts classes, a lap pool and rock-climbing wall.
“What a terrific gift Cal State Fullerton students have given to the future of the campus,” said Kurt Borsting, director of the Titan Student Union. “Its completion during the university’s 50th anniversary celebration makes it all that much more exciting.” All Cal State Fullerton students who have paid Titan Student Union fees are eligible to use the new facility. Faculty and staff members and Alumni Association members may use the center by paying membership fees. The annual fee will be about $300.
“The programs and services offered through the rec center can help students strengthen their feelings of connection with the campus, and this supports the university’s student retention objectives,” Borsting said.
One of the largest cardio/weight rooms on a West Coast campus, also featuring special equipment for use by disabled students, is one of the many amenities in the new center.
