Digitizing Lost Worlds
<a href="zoomifyViewer.swf">Boswell Map 1</a>

The world, as seen in 1555, possibly by Munster. North America is barely acknowledged and sea monsters lurk in every ocean. Cannibals are busily at work at lower left and dragons devour sheep, upper left. At top and bottom angels energetically turn the Earth's axis, but in different directions. More maps in the Boswell Collection can be seen in "Worlds That Never Were," an exhibit catalog available in Special Collections. The collection as a whole is described in "Very Special Collections," edited by Albert Vogeler and Art Hansen.
